Rancho Brillando was created in 2001 by the Levy Family—Ron Levy, Lisa Shepherd and our children Chris and Lauren—and named in memory of our first quarter horse, Skippa Glitter. Located on ten acres of hillside near the Reagan Library, between Simi Valley and Moorpark, California, the ranch is home to Hoyt Performance Horses, where Michael Hoyt trains our horses and others to be champions.

So Hot On The Range – 2007 Openrange gelding
In 2007 we were thrilled to have two Rancho Brillando horses win back-to-back World Championships in Junior Trail and Senior Trail. RL Tune Up (“Ralph”), our Senior Trail champion, continues to show in Select and Open events, and will be competing at the Open World in 2011 (See interview and video here).
In August 2010 Michael Hoyt joined us as our resident trainer. Michael is a native of New Mexico who, after college and a successful youth career, decided to pursue his dream of training horses professionally. He apprenticed under several top names in the industry until 2004, when he set up his own training barn in Southern California.
Michael has won at some of the most prestigious futurities in the nation, from the Silver Dollar Circuit to the Georgia Breeders Futurity. In 2009 he was Reserve All-American Congress Champion in Senior Trail, and in 2010 he was Top Ten in Junior Trail at the AQHA World. His performance-based training program for youth and amateur riders covers western pleasure, trail, western riding, showmanship, horsemanship, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation and pleasure driving. He also focuses on starting young horses and bringing them through the futurity process.
